The Southern Tigers are apparently close to appointing the experienced Cesar Ferrando Jimenez as their new Head Coach

Johor Darul Takzim are set to appoint former Valencia and Atletico Madrid boss Cesar Ferrando Jimenez as their new Head Coach, as the Southern Tigers look to improve their fortunes.

The new appointment will see current Head Coach Fandi Ahmad take up the Assistant-coach position, despite leading Johor Darul Takzim to a third placed finish in the Malaysian Super League this year.

Cesar Ferrando comes with a wealth of experience, having coached several sides in Spanish football, including Atletico Madrid back in 2004.

In an official statement, the Johor Crown Prince, Tunku Ismail Idris said: "We have decided to appoint a new Spanish Head Coach, who is very experienced in the game.

"He has coached teams like Valencia and Atletico Madrid before.

"Fandi Ahmad will remain with the team, but on an assistant coach capacity."

This move comes as no surprise with Fandi Ahmad being placed under intense pressure throughout the season, due to Johor Darul Takzim's inconsistency on the pitch.

Nonetheless, it now remains to be seen whether the new appointment will be able to reinvigorate the expensive squad set-up.
